Thank you for your vote of confidence in electing me Potentate of Abou Ben Adhem Temple for 2018. I am committed to serve each of you to the best of my ability.
Membership continues to be our greatest challenge. Membership retention and increase is having the programs and entertainment in place to satisfy our current members and makes others in the community want to be a part of our organization. Public relations is so important! I feel it is almost criminal that the Shrine does so much good for so many people through our hospitals, yet so few outside our membership seem to know much about our “good side.” We will be working hard on improving our public relations in 2018.
You will notice several subtle changes in the way we do things in 2018, commencing with the calendar changes, event locations, and fezzing ceremony just to name a few. Let me know if you like these changes.
Thanks to Illustrious Sir John Richardson’s hard work, with his crew, the plans and funding for our property on the James River is off to a respectable start, and we will be reporting to the Nobilty early in the year on that and other projects.
1996 will be a time of hard work and hard play – but most importantly keep in mind that FAITH, HOPE, AND CHARITY are the RIGHT MIX FOR ‘96
NOTE: Other than date changes in first three paragraphs and a slight direction change in the fourth, the above articleis written exactly as it first appeared in my dad’s first Pote’s Messsage 22 years ago. I guess the old saying “The more things change the more they stay the same” applies here. I was looking through an old box of stuff and found it and thought I would share.
It’s all about ABA
