What an awesome and humbling experience you have afforded me this year. It is one that I do not take lightly, but with all the work ahead of us we WILL have fun! It’s what we do,
having fun and working side by side. Fun with a purpose, if you will.
We have many exciting things in the plans for this year: Potentate’s “Groovy Prom” Ball in
March, Shrine Directors Association 100th Anniversary convention in April, Potentate’s
Cruise in May, Central States and Route 66 in August, Renaissance Festival in September, Luck and Load Gun Raffle and FEZtival of Trees in November. Some new things, some we’ve had fun with in the past, but most of all, working together to make this an enjoyable year for us all.
When I come out of the Potentate’s Room and look to my right, there is my grandfather’s
name, Guy T. Wood. He joined the Lodge in November of 1910, the Shrine in November of 1916, then went off to WWI. He, along with about 75 others have their names placed in the Roll of Honor on the second floor of our Temple. Keep in mind that the Shrine was only 44 years old at that time, and our building wasn’t even here yet.
I say all of this to make you consider what a legend we have in our building, our fraternity, our philanthropy, and our family that we continue to develop here at Abou Ben Adhem. I hope you will consider this an invitation to start your own legacy with us, as we all enjoy Fun with a Purpose!
